At present there are approximately 1,300 female prisoners.

It is notoriously well known that women in prisons are particularly vulnerable to gender issues, abuse and lack of adequate sanitation and menstrual products.

*The Prison Service does not regularly provide inmates with basic necessities, including soap, toothpaste, sanitary pads, and laundry detergent, and women remarked on difficulties in dealing with their menstruation, and a sense of shame. Without sanitary pads they try to use and wash pieces of cloth, often with inadequate or no detergent or warm water. This increases their risk of infectious disease.

On 8th March 2018 and in honor of women on International Women’s Day.  Alice and her team visited Mkushi Prison Correctional Facility and gifted all 8 women a Talula Cup and other useful toiletries.

Through donations Talula would like to facilitate the distribution of the Talula cup to every female prisoner in Zambia along with a hygiene demonstration, giving them a little dignity back when it comes to menstruation.

If you would like to be a part of this project please get in touch.

Each Talula cups costs ZMK150.00 equivalent to USD $15.00
